It’s not the easiest place to spot, but seek out the door in the perimeter wall of the Rochelle School and you shall be rewarded with a secret oasis just five minutes walk from Shoreditch High Street. The Rochelle Canteen in a converted Victorian bike shed is a terse offering of bold, simple food made with considerably skill.
What to eat? The menu changes daily, but you might opt for quail and celeriac remoulade, asparagus (when in season) and butter, artichoke, aubergine stew or braised lamb, peas and mint, which are bookended by three breakfast options and three puds.
Pipsqueak tip Sit outside on a nice day and the kids can wander around the walled garden while you enjoy a wonderful meal.
