Here’s a gem that’s worth seek out. Set back from east London’s thoroughfares in a quiet courtyard by the Regent’s Canal in east London, this laidback home-style Japanese café is family run and child focused. ‘Toconoco’ is a made-up word that translates as ‘kids on the floor’ and here’s a place where your little one categorically does not need to sit still and be quiet.
What to order The set lunch menu changes its main dish daily (beef curry or fried pork, perhaps), but always includes rice, miso soup and a small salad. And there are also edamame, rice balls – perfect finger food – noodles, and Japanese things on toast, such as mushed avocado with wasabi soy sauce, or egg miso mayo. They also serve the superior Sabo tea brand.
Pipsqueak tip Come for play time! They have a toy kitchen and many other distractions.
