Why go? Located within a 120-year old Main Street Victorian house in downtown Aspen, Matsuhisa Aspen opened in 1998 as the first Matsuhisa location outside of Chef Nobu’s original Beverly Hills restaurant. Downstairs you’ll find the main dining room and Matsuhisa Upstairs offers indoor and outdoor (seasonal) seating in a casual setting with an intimate sushi bar.

What to order? It’s really hard to go wrong with any dish, but we’re especially partial to classics like the shishito peppers, Broiled Black Cod with Miso, Rock Shrimp Tempura, Washugyu Beef Tataki, Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeño, and of course sashimi.

Pipsqueak tip Despite being “fancy,” this place is super accommodating to kids and toddlers. They brought out a sippy cup for my daughter without prompting and were super relaxed when she got food everywhere. If your child doesn’t enjoy sushi, there are cooked menu items (like tempura, chicken skewers, rice/ udon) for them to choose from.
