Why go? Nestled into the Maui Tropical Plantation in Waikapū, The Mill House epitomizes the farm-to-table concept—and then some. Presenting inventive dishes inspired by the plantation’s crops and the island’s highest-quality organic produce and proteins, this beautiful, open-air venue peers out upon the West Maui Mountains. Executive Chef Jeff Scheer—who took home ‘Aipono’s Chef of the Year award in 2015—first looks to the bounty outside his kitchen to create dazzling, one-of-a-kind dishes (and earning The Mill House the Gold ‘Aipono award for the island’s Most Innovative Menu.
What to order? Everything on the menu is super delicious and inventive. We loved the Miso Eggplant, Kalbi steak, and Chicken Bao Buns to share. For mains, we recommend trying the Pork Belly, Squash Pizza, and Fish sandwich. If you are able, check out their Maui Chef’s Table option, which dives into a multi-course menu of dishes inspired by the chefs’ personal stories and told through Maui’s seasonal ingredients. Guests are encouraged to leave their seats, come to the “Chef’s Table”, ask questions, take pictures, and get to know the Chefs. The kitchen is right there in the room!
Pipsqueak tip Kids will love wandering around the property, including the duck pond right outside the restaurant. If you have the time, we suggest taking the Tropical Plantation tram tour… and if you are here around lunch, be sure to save room for ice scream at The Scoop (open from 10am-4pm), where Made on Maui Ice Cream, Ice Pops, and Farm Fresh Fruit Smoothies are made on location at the Maui Tropical Plantation.
